Interesting, I just read about this address block. I agree, IPv6 is a sure fire alternative for our group and as Mark pointed out, our reservation isn't stopping them from being handed out. I wouldn't even know who to ask for an allocation anyway. I'm one of the few Hams that is interested in high speed microwave amateur radio operations, no others around here are so i can see IPv6 being in place before any kind of HSMM network is functional.

- "As for 1200bd, when was the last time you saw that on the air?" Every heard of APRS? 1200 baud is still got its foot stuck in the door with it, 9600 baud is the oddball. Other than the Kantronics TNC, there are few true hardware modems for 9600bd which disappoints me. SDR is NOT a viable option for battery powered systems. And I don't care for proprietary corporate manufactured radios with digital functions unless the radio is *completely* open source. There is no point in setting up an infrastructure only to find out the equipment manufacture just discontinued that product/system and the replacement is not compatible nor will they release firmware source, etc.

Thanks a lot! This was useful after constantly deleting then creating VMs inside a hypervisor, while reusing static IPs of a block I own. The hypervisor assigns a new MAC address to the interface. This worked fine for the primary static IP and interface, but my aliased interfaces (eth1:1, eth1:2, etc) would work sometimes but not other times. My hunch is that the hypervisor (in my case Citrix XenServer) is doing the ARPING somehow for the non-aliased interface (thanks) upon VM creation.

Now my script that recreates a VM will automatically ARPING the gateway after setting up the aliased interfaces.

Having made the transition from DroboGen2/Droboshare to a Synology DS1511+, I cannot believe how I have been able, for two years, to put up with such a slow, unreliable and badly managed product such as the Drobo. Within this time, I’ve had two data corruption incidents and performance the speed of the turtle. The difference of the Synology in speed, reliability and manageability is astronomical! Drobo Dashboard is so plain and spartan, that it seems like the difference between DOS and Windows 7! Especially the ability of the Synology GUI to multitask and relegate tasks to the background, continuing to run them while offline is fantastic. I copied 2 TB of data from an external USB disk to the Synology unattended, without having even to have a computer present. Gone are the days of waiting for copies to complete. You may say that Drobo/Droboshare is the lowest product of Drobo, however Synology has the same functionality across their product line, from the lowest end to the highest end! And if you read the experiences of Drobo FS users, they’re just as bad as mine. I once was a great advocate of Drobo, even recommended it for business use a couple of times. I am now afraid of being accused for it. I am very sorry to say that Drobo is the classic case of a brilliant idea executed in the worst possible way…
